Airplane S.A.I. The 2S became the founder of a whole family of machines that were successfully used for various purposes during the 1930-1940s. Created as an analogue of the very popular multi-purpose aircraft of the Miles company in those years, the Italian model was a monoplane with a low wing, a fixed landing gear in fairings and a completely enclosed cabin designed for a pilot and 2-3 passengers.
Although S.A.I. The 2S attracted some interest from the military, and before the start of the war it was mainly used as a tourist and training aircraft. Only after Italy entered the war, the S.A.I 2S were put into military service and were used not only for training flight personnel, but also as communications aircraft.
Despite the small number of copies built, the S.A.I 2S flew until the signing of the armistice in September 1943. The experience gained during the work on it was subsequently very useful in the design of the S.A.I 7 training aircraft, which was considered one of the best post-war training aircraft.

Designed as a two-seat light trainer and recreational low-wing aircraft, the SAI Ambrosini SAI.3 aircraft had large-span elliptical wings, an extended rear fuselage and a fixed landing gear. The power plant was either a Fiat A.50 radial piston engine with 85 hp or an Alfa Romeo A.110 inverted inline piston engine with 130 hp.
A small run of 10 SAI.3 models were built, some of which were produced with closed cockpits instead of the more conventional tandem open cockpits. It is not surprising that the model with a more powerful Alfa Romeo engine had superiority in flight characteristics, in addition, the take-off weight increased by 40 kg and reached 830 kg, the maximum speed increased to 230 km/h, the service ceiling was up to 5200 m and the flight range was up to 680 km .

In addition to the main model, the S.A.I.3S version was also produced with a Bramo Sh.14 A-4 engine with a power of 160 hp. and a wing with a slightly reduced chord. Its flight characteristics have generally improved compared to the S.A.I.3 model.
